Santiago – Manzanillo, Colima
A complete little beach town just north of Manzanillo
Santiago, once a separate town has been annexed by the City of Manzanillo – so is now a Colonia. However it still has the flavor and feel of a small Mexican town complete with a market and a Bull Ring. About eight blocks into town is the Mercado and adjoining craft and flower markets. The ‘Plaza de Toros’ is about eight blocks futher into town beyond the market. There is also a Saturday Tianguis (street market) along the main avenue.
Lots of beach activity including fishing and surfing. A number of restaurants throughout town, along the highway and on the beaches to the north and south. Aquatic Sports and Adventures is probably the best sports activity business in town. There are a number of older less expensive hotels on the north side of the Santiago Peninsula … or my favorite, La Maria a few blocks in from the plaza. Hollywood and Vine, just off the main drag, is a favorite afternoon hangout for local gringos in need of a beer and conversation.

Hey Sparks,
I am thinking of moving from San Miguel de Allende to Manzanillo or Melaque next spring. I lived in Ajijic for 8 years, moved to SMA last April and am finding it’s just not for me.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time on your beautiful websites this evening but I can’t find an active forum in which to ask my million questions.
My big question is affordability. My budget for rent is 5000 pesos or 400 USD. I have 2 small dogs so need a yard of some kind. I need space to do my painting. I have a car that probably needs to be parked somewhere secure.
I’ve spent vacation time at Manzanilla, Boca, Melaque and Barra, and very little time in Manzanillo, only for lunch and beach. I don’t have a sense of what would be more affordable. I read your description of Santiago and it sounds really nice.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Libby

Sounds like my old rental in Melaque would be good. Probably 5000 for long term, 3bdrm, 2 bath, yard and garage a block from the beach. Alejandrina #40 in Villa Obregon
