La Huerta Jalisco Mexico
About a half hour up in the mountains on highway 80 from the coast and the town of Melaque on the Costalegre
Marcos and I drove up to La Huerta with the idea of exploring the country side. We’d heard of the Petroglyphs but had no idea where they were. Before marching off into the unknown we decided to check out downtown La Huerta and thats when we ran into the very helpful tourist office that gave us directions, pamphlets and a six page printout from their Web Site.
Across from the Plaza is the Restaurant Colonial which specializes in Chacales, a river crayfish. Everyone was eating these things but we ordered a typical lunch not knowing what we were missing. Chacales are more plentyful in the rainy season but this restaurant seems to have their own source.
Even though the town dates back to Colonial days the ruin of a church was only built in the mid 20th century. When it was destroyed by an earthquake it was not considered historical enough to rebuild. The new church next door did not deserve a foto.
