It had been about 2 years
since I drove up the back road out of Jaluco thru El Almolon to Tequesquitlan
- the Tamarindo capital of Jalisco. Not much new and
further than I remembered but we did drive thru El Almolon (very
small). Also found a new packing plant for
Casa Cortes candy company on the outskirts of
Tequesquitlan.
We thought we were headed
directly to Cuautitlan but ended up taking the longer route thru
Lagunillas (only a few minutes longer). Reaching Cuzalapa we found that the Women's Cooperative moved to
a new building a few blocks away past the soccer field.
For some reason the coffee roaster was not working so they were
short of coffee - but we bought a lot of other stuff and
continued up the road toward Durazno thinking we might reach the
waterfall.
With no roads signs we turned
off and drove past the small town of Viejita (20-30 homes) and up the
river. Finally back up the main road we made it to Durazno and beyond but found the
waterfall also includes a good hike beyond where you leave your
car. Beautiful country if you get a chance to drive
it.
