The new highway between Lázaro Cárdenas and Uruapan is finished but only 2 lanes so be careful when you see 2 semi trucks coming at you side by side down the hill.  With 4 toll booths (casetas) the fare ran around $200 pesos.  The scenery of the route is varied from tropical on the coast, desert in the middle and rich farm lands and orchards in the highlands.  The drive from Playa Azul to Uruapan took us about 3.5 hours with a quick swing through Lázaro Cárdenas - a large and mostly uninteresting city.
